Baisakhi is an ancient religious harvest festival celebrated by the Sikhs and Hindus in the northern parts of India, particularly Punjab. This religious celebration marks the start of the solar new year. This celebration has strong significance to the Sikh because it commemorates the anniversary of the introduction of Khalsa Panth in 1699 by Guru Gobind Sindh to teach his followers that no ritual or superstition is above the Almighty. Khalsa means free or sovereign and since then the Sikhs all over the world celebrate the Khalsa Panth. Nevertheless, Vaisakhi is also celebrated as the New Year for the Tamil / Malayali and Hindus.
