Hari Raya Haji is more popularly known as Eid al-Adha or Hari Raya Qurban in Malaysia.

Eid al-Adha is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ishmael to show submission to Allah. However, before Ibrahim sacrificed his son, Allah provided him with a sheep to sacrifice instead of his son.

The animal is sacrificed and divided into three parts - one third of the share is given to the poor and needy; another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbours; and the last third is kept for the family.

Eid al-Adha, which also means ‘Feast of the Sacrifice’, is a four-day Islamic festival that starts on the 19th day of the month of Dhul Hijjah. The days of Eid has been singled out in the Hadith (reports describing the words, actions or habits of Prophet Muhammad) as ‘days of remembrance’ and considered the holiest days in the Islamic Calendar.
