It is an ancient Chinese festival when people would go out for an outing by the water, have picnic and pluck orchids. It is also a day when cleansing rituals were held to prevent diseases and to get rid of bad luck. The 3rd day of the 3rd month was also celebrated by lovers as their Valentine’s Day in ancient China.
