Hinduism and Buddhism were practised in the Malay peninsula long before the arrival of Islam. It is commonly believed that Islam was first introduced to the Malay peninsula in the 12th century although the Arab traders preached in the Malay Archipelago, Indo-China and China in the 7th century. Today, Islam is the official religion in Malaysia.

Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim
Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim is located in Kuala Selangor. It is named after the second Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Ibrahim Shah. The mosque was officially opened by the 8th Sultan of Selangor in March 1987.

The mosque is painted white with four golden domes. One large one above the main prayer hall and three smaller ones. It has two minarets on each side, topped by a golden dome. The walls of this three-storey mosque are embellished with verses from the holy Quran written in beautiful khat.
This mosque that is equipped with three prayer halls can accommodate up to 800 worshippers at any one time.
Masjid Darul Quran
Masjid Darul Quran is located at Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor. The mosque is actually part of Darul Quran, an institute of Islamic studies. The idea of Darul Quran was mooted by Malaysia’s first Prime Minister in 1966. Although the institute was established in the 1960s, it was only in November 1998 when the permanent campus of Darul Quran was launched at Ampang Pecah, Kuala Kubu Bharu.
The mosque sits next to the shore of a pristine lake, which water reflects the majestic mosque, the blue sky and the fluffy clouds. Oh, what a picturesque view!

Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah
Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah is located in Shah Alam and is the Selangor State Mosque. It is also known as the Shah Alam Blue Mosque. The mosque was officially opened by the Sultan of Selangor in March 1988.
Masjid Sultan Salahuddin is claimed to be the second largest mosque in Southeast Asia, after Masjid Istiqlal in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The mosque is nestled on the north bank of the Shah Alam Lake, which is slightly elevated compared to the other parts of town. The mosque overlooks the International Islamic Arts Garden Complex. When the mosque was first built, it was able to accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers. It was later extended in the year 2000 to accommodate 24,000 worshippers.

Masjid Sultan Salahuddin is built according to a combination of traditional Islamic, West Asian and Malay architecture. It has a very large dome, 300 feet high with a diameter of 170 feet. This makes it the largest religious dome ever built in history. The main prayer hall is about 73,000 square feet and is supported by eight square pillars. It comprises two levels, where the top level is reserved for women worshippers. The mosque is also equipped with elevators to enable worshippers on wheelchairs to move from one floor to another.
The mosque has four minarets and is claimed to be the second tallest individual minarets in the world, after the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco. Each of the minaret is 142.3 metres high.
Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah
Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah is a Selangor royal mosque. Also known as Bukit Jelutong Mosque, it is located in Bukit Jelutong, near to Shah Alam, the capital city of Selangor. Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah is the second state mosque, after the Sultan Sallahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque. It is named after Tengku Ampuan Jemaah of Selangor, the consort of Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah, the sixth Sultan of Selangor.
Construction of this mosque began in 2010 and completed in 2012. The mosque was officially opened by the Sultan of Selangor in March 2013.

The mosque is sited on a sprawling five-hectare site. It is built according to the traditional Middle Eastern Islamic design and its external walls are unadorned except for its main entrance where inscriptions of verses from the Quran can be found.
The mosque has a central dome and four gigantic and identical minarets at four corners of the mosque. The Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah can accommodate up to 4,000 worshippers at any one time.
